SCREEN TEST ROTAVIRUS Rotavirus Rapid Test REF: SC-0692-25 The rapid test for Rotavirus (Feces) is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of rotavirus in human stool samples to assist in the diagnosis of rotavirus infection. Rotavirus is the agent most commonly responsible for acute gastroenteritis, especially in young children. Its discovery in 1973 and the association with childhood gastroenteritis represented an important step forward in the study of gastroenteritis not caused by acute bacterial infection. Rotavirus is transmitted via the fecal-oral route with an incubation period of 1-3 days. Although the samples collected between the second and fifth day of illness are ideal for detecting the antigen, the rotavirus can still be detected even if the diarrhea persists. Rotavirus gastroenteritis is a cause of mortality among at-risk populations such as children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients.
