A gastric band is a nearly circular device placed around the upper part of the stomach via laparoscopic surgery.
Applications
This bariatric band helps obese persons loose weight more easily and more rapidly by slowing the passage of food to the lower part of the stomach. Thus, feelings of hunger disappear more quickly, replaced by a sense of satiety.
Technologies
Such devices are usually made of silicone, and can be adjusted to fit each individual patient.
