OverviewAbsorbable haemostatic products for neurosurgery: SURGISPON® (absorbable gelatin sponge & powder), SURGI-ORC® (oxidized regenerated cellulose) and FLOGEL® (flowable gelatin haemostatic matrix). Designed to provide rapid, secure haemostasis in irregular cavities and narrow fields, reduce intraoperative bleeding and support surgical efficiency.
SURGISPON® – Absorbable Haemostatic Gelatin Sponge & Powder- Absorbable gelatin sponge that achieves rapid local haemostasis.
- Uniform porosity for effective clot formation and fluid uptake.
- Absorbs approximately 45× its weight in water/oxalate blood.
- Provides structural support to stabilize clot at the bleeding site.
- pH-neutral, compatible with adjuncts such as thrombin or drugs.
- Completely resorbed within ~4 weeks.
- Available in sponge and powder/putty variants for cancellous bone bleeding control.
Key features & benefits (SURGISPON®)- Fast, reliable haemostasis on soft tissue and bone surfaces.
- Conforms to irregular anatomy.
- Powder/putty options for trabecular bone oozing.
Indications (SURGISPON®)- Haemostasis of dural, epidural, bone, parenchymal and skull bleeding.
- Dural reconstruction following trauma or tumor resection.
- Supplementary use in vascular repair and implant fixation.
SURGI-ORC® – Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose- Plant-derived absorbable haemostat suitable for capillary, venous and minor arterial bleeding.
- Creates a low-pH environment with bactericidal properties.
- Resorbed within ~7–14 days.
- Highly drapable and pliable—suitable for deep or narrow operative fields.
- Acts as an anti-adhesive barrier and conforms to tissue without instrument adherence.
- Available in multiple formats: Original/Standard, Knit, Fibril, Non-woven/Snow and Powder.
Key features & benefits (SURGI-ORC®)- Natural plant-based origin with secure haemostasis.
- Low pH confers localized bactericidal effect.
- Good coverage and handling in confined spaces.
Indications (SURGI-ORC®)- Arterial, dural and venous bleeding including cavernous sinus and venous plexus.
- Use in various cranial procedures: ELITE exposures, lateral suboccipital craniotomy, microvascular decompression, craniotomy/craniectomy.
- Posterior fossa tumor resections, chronic subdural haematoma, intracranial meningiomas, AVM and cavernoma surgeries.
FLOGEL® – Flowable Gelatin Haemostatic Matrix Kit- Flowable, absorbable gelatin matrix supplied as a prefilled syringe for application into tight or irregular cavities.
- Designed for difficult-to-reach bleeding sites and cavity oozing.
- Quick preparation with uniform viscosity and an effective working time of up to ~8 hours.
- Ensures firm contact and adherence to the application site for faster haemostasis.
- Conforms to tissue contours and remains in crevices during active bleeding; excess can be irrigated once haemostasis is achieved.
- Biocompatible and resorbed within ~4 weeks.
Key features & benefits (FLOGEL®)- Rapid preparation and consistent handling characteristics.
- Extended working time and strong adherence to target site.
- Effective in irregular cavities and deep operative fields.
- Biocompatible and resorbable.
Indications (FLOGEL®)- Tumor resection cavities with large raw surfaces or cavity oozing.
- Skull base procedures including tumor bed and sinus management, transsphenoidal approaches.
- Application in AVM resection cavities and other narrow/irregular surgical sites.
