Detection of all HCV subtypes
THE SOLUTION
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an enveloped, single-stranded positive sense (9.5 kb) RNA virus belonging to
Flaviviridae family. Six major genotypes and a series of HCV subtypes have been identified. Isolated in 1989,
HCV is now recognized as the leading cause of transfusion associated non A, non B hepatitis characterized
by acute and chronic forms. More than 50% of infected individuals develop severe, life-threatening chronic
hepatitis with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Clinical studies show that a significant amount
of HCV-infected individuals develop antibodies against the non-structural NS5 protein of the virus.
First Response® HCV is a third-generation qualitative immunochromatographic test for the detection of a panel
of antibodies against structural (c22) and non-structural NS5, NS3 (c200) and NS4 (c200) HCV antigens in the blood,
serum and plasma of infected individuals.
