Description

Overview
ARGOS is an all-in-one brain monitoring platform combining EEG and NIRS to objectively assess anesthetic effects on brain function during general anesthesia. It delivers continuous, non-invasive, real-time information on the balance between cerebral oxygen supply and demand and on spontaneous cortical activity to support personalized anesthesia management and optimize postoperative neurological outcomes.

Key features
  • Integrated EEG & NIRS platform providing simultaneous, continuous, non-invasive, real-time assessment.
  • Reusable EEG/NIRS headset secured by a single-use adhesive patch for simplified setup and reduced clinical footprint (one monitor, one cable; no external amplifiers or acquisition modules).
  • High chromatic and spatial resolution with 6 wavelengths × 6 LEDs and 8 photoreceptors per LED, totaling 144 optical vectors for improved cortical selectivity.
  • Patented adaptive optical footprint using three integrated tri-axial accelerometers to compensate for skull-shape variability and maintain reliable cerebral oxygen measurements across patients.
  • NIRS algorithms calibrated under surgical conditions using a clinical database collected during TAVI procedures.

Advanced cerebral NIRS (technical approach)
The reusable headset integrates 6 LEDs at 6 wavelengths with 8 photoreceptors each (144 optical vectors) to enhance chromatic and spatial resolution and improve fronto-temporal cortical sampling.

Processed EEG
ARGOS outputs a disclosed sedation index (burst compensated Spectral Edge Frequency – bcSEF) together with an EEG Burst Suppression Ratio (SR) to guide sedative administration and reduce the risk of adverse neurological effects related to over-sedation.

Display modes
The human–machine interface supports bimodal EEG–NIRS and optional trimodal EEG–NIRS–ANI (MDoloris), offers basic to expert clinical decision support and configurable standard to synergistic displays to fit different clinician workflows.

Smart Alert System
The Smart Alert system combines EEG and NIRS thresholds through a disclosed algorithm to generate a unified visual alert level, automating detection of potentially hazardous states from combined EEG/NIRS analysis and supporting rapid clinical decisions.

Case reporting and Brain Stress Index (BSI)
ARGOS generates a per-patient report compiling cumulative and time-resolved EEG and NIRS parameters (area under the curve, suppression time, alpha peak, etc.). The platform computes a Brain Stress Index (BSI) reflecting cumulative intraoperative time with concurrent oversedation and low cerebral oxygenation, providing an objective metric of anesthesia contribution to postoperative neurological complications.
