The Merci Retrieval System® is optimized for use in minimally-invasive, catheter-based intervention for patients with acute ischemic stroke. In stroke management, the primary goal of the physician is to restore blood flow. Studies have shown that when blood flow to the brain is sucessfully restored, the patient can function better and can be more independent upon recovery. The Multi MERCI trial experiments have shown the Merci Retriever® to have restored blood flow in patients in about 55% of the time, and 68% when complemented with other treatments. 49% of the patients whose blood flow were restored were functioning independently at their 90-day follow up with the doctor.
