Alanine aminotransferase (ALAT, ALT, GPT) is an enzyme primarily found in liver. Determinations of elevated ALAT activity in serum and plasma are mainly used to aid in the diagnosis and monitor of liver diseases e.g. acute hepatitis, hepatocyte necrosis, hepatic ischemia, cirrhosis, cholestasis, liver tumor, hepatotoxic drugs, mechanical jaundice.
