Marathon™ Cemented Cup Introduced in 2008, MARATHON™ Cemented Cups utilise the cross-linked polyethylene successfully used for over 10 years as a modular liner in the DURALOC® and PINNACLE® Acetabular Cup System.1 MARATHON Cross-Linked Polyethylene has been shown to be significantly more resistant to wear compared to non-crosslinked polyethylene.2 In 41 cases, Peck et al achieved 100% survivorship at 5.2 years with 83% reduction in wear versus ENDURON™.3 The fixation features and bearing surface (bore) geometry of the MARATHON Cemented Cup are the same as the LPW version of the CHARNLEY® OGEE, CHARNLEY & ELITE PLUS OGEE CUPS. Features & Benefits Made from clinically proven MARATHON Cross-Linked Polyethylene1,2,3 The bearing surface (bore) geometry is the same as the LPW version of the OGEE, CHARNLEY & ELITE PLUS Cups Cement fixation grooves identical to OGEE, CHARNLEY & ELITE PLUS Cups Flange has concentric laser etched trim lines at 4mm intervals in place of a trimming aid Pre-operative planning is intended to assess patient suitability to receive the MARATHON™ XLPE Cemented Cup and may save time in theatre by helping predict the final implant size. X-ray templates have been provided for each of the available sizes of implant in various magnifications. Digital X-ray templates are also available if required The landmarks for acetabular component positioning are the medial wall of the acetabulum (radiographic tear drop) and the superolateral rim of the acetabulum It is important to note that the template is a guide only. The final implant size and position will be determined intraoperatively.
