ApplicationThe movable swimming pool floor is designed for patient-centered aquatic rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. It allows precise adjustment of water depth to meet individual patient needs, facilitating pain relief, improving joint mobility and enabling exercises that are difficult on land.
Product overviewThe system enables therapists to set the optimal immersion depth for each treatment. Water buoyancy reduces joint loading and supports functional movement, while the water-based resistance and adjustable depth facilitate muscle strengthening, endurance, balance and coordination therapies. The construction is modular and suitable for clinical hydrotherapy environments.
Clinical & knowledge supportEWAC Medical provides clinical resources and publications on use of movable floors in hydrotherapy. Variable water depth expands treatment possibilities and supports established clinical methods used in rehabilitation practice.
ExperienceEWAC Medical has designed and installed movable pool floors for over 25 years and completed >1,000 projects worldwide. Ongoing development focuses on a non-slip yet comfortable walking surface and clinical applicability.
Endless possibilities (examples of therapies)- Water Specific Therapy (WST)
- Halliwick
- Bad Ragaz Ring Method (BRRM)
- Clinical Ai Chi
- Aquatic motor-cognitive therapy (AMCT)
- Aquatic Passive Manual Handling (APMH)
- Aquatic Cardiovascular Training (ACT)
Advantages- Water-hydraulic operation (no toxic hydraulic fluids in pool)
- Open, fully water-permeable structure
- Modular construction adaptable to shapes and sizes
- Minimal structural changes required
- Very small technical plant room (<2 m2)
- Design adaptable to clinical and architectural requirements
- Can be installed in existing and modular pools
- Parts sized to pass through standard doorways or windows
Result / benefits- No toxic fluids can contaminate pool water in case of leakage
- No electrical components submerged in water
- Does not form a barrier to water circulation
- Supports improved water hygiene
- First floor reported to pass EN 15288:2008 Annex A dye test
- Can be completely installed within one week (typical)
- Reduced construction footprint and costs
- Rounded edges, slanted sides and ergonomic design for patient safety
- Broad therapeutic applicability and alternative employability
Many possible options / integrationsAvailable integrations include underwater treadmill (can be integrated into the movable floor for static walking), underwater bicycle, obstacle courses, integrated staircases and other therapy accessories. Integration reduces therapist movement and improves observation and correction during sessions.
Types & compatibility- Suspended movable floor: up to ~45 m2. Floor suspended by cables anchored to pool walls and raised by a water-hydraulic cylinder integrated into the floor frame; compatible with existing pool constructions.
- Floating movable floor: from ~45 m2 (suitable range ~40 m2 – 140 m2). Uses floating bodies and a water-hydraulic cable adjustment system; compatible with many existing pool situations.
Hygiene & safetyThe system is engineered to meet strict water hygiene standards. EWAC Medical’s movable floor is reported to comply with EN 15288:2008 (Annex A dye test), demonstrating the floor does not negatively affect pool hygiene. The water-hydraulic drive prevents contamination by toxic hydraulic fluids.
