Description

Product
A butterfly bath (whirlpool bath) is a hydrotherapy immersion tank using adjustable water jets, temperature and flow to provide whole-body therapeutic massage. Indicated for musculoskeletal conditions, post‑operative recovery and rehabilitation, it enables combined treatment of arms, legs and trunk while allowing controlled hydrostatic and dynamic effects.

Knowledge
The EWAC butterfly bath is the current generation of the treatment bath (formerly called “Hubbard Tank”). It accommodates patients from infants to adults for both active rehabilitation and passive underwater massage. Its butterfly shape increases freedom of movement for patients and improves access for therapists. The design focuses on movement space, therapist ergonomics, hygiene and long service life.

Experience
EWAC Medical has executed hydrotherapy projects for over 25 years with more than 1,000 installations worldwide. Early butterfly baths delivered in the 1970s remain operational and their operational feedback is integrated into ongoing design improvements.

Complete freedom of movement
The ergonomic butterfly shape provides unobstructed movement space and easier therapist access compared with standard whirlpools. The bath supports simultaneous treatment of arms, legs and trunk. Only an EWAC Medical stainless steel butterfly bath can be fitted with an adjustable chest support positionable anywhere around the bath. Transfer and handling equipment for mobile and immobile patients are available. The bath is suitable for patients with limited endurance, aquaphobia or insecurity; elevated temperatures influence ligament elasticity, making the bath suitable also for infants.

Water hygiene
EWAC Medical supplies the Aquacontrol water treatment unit with most deliveries to ensure water quality. Aquacontrol filters, heats and disinfects the water and includes a programmable timer for operational periods. EWAC Medical water treatment installations comply with recognised water safety requirements.

Practical functionality
The butterfly bath is a full-immersion tank manufactured from stainless steel AISI 316. It can be equipped with a powerful underwater massage unit: the pump is installed beneath the bath, the underwater jet is controlled by a pressure regulator and manometer, and nozzle diameters are selectable from six sizes. The underwater massage unit is CE-MDD approved. The bath can be supplied with an Aquacontrol unit (cartridge filter, heater, disinfection). Standard fittings include cold and warm water taps, a handheld showerhead, overflow and drain. The bath stands on four adjustable legs and can be equipped with headrest, hand rails, stretcher, two-step entrance, cover sheet and chest support. The chest support improves the therapist’s working position. The bath is compatible with mobile patient lifters with approximately 1000 mm lift height; ceiling lifts are recommended for optimal use of accessories and handling.
