The C390M Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System is an infrared-sensor-method instrument designed to measure the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of barrier materials with high, medium and low moisture barrier properties, conforming to ISO 15106-2 and ASTM F1249. It features an integrated 3-test-cell block, high-precision sensors and a computer-controlled system to regulate temperature, humidity and gas flow for sensitive and repeatable results.

Test Principle
The specimen is mounted in a diffusion cell split into a dry chamber and a controlled-humidity chamber. Dry nitrogen sweeps the dry side; water vapor permeating through the specimen is carried by the dry nitrogen to an infrared sensor which produces electrical signals. WVTR is calculated by analyzing these signals. For package specimens the dry nitrogen flow is inside the specimen while the outside is placed in a high-humidity environment.
