The Friendly Shortstem is a straight, short cemented stem for total hip replacement. The stem is made of FeCrNiMnMoNbN alloy to be used with a IV generation cementing technique. The stem has a polished surface, with a rectangular section and rounded edges, with a profile that is tapered distally.
The short stem design combined with the cementing technique promote this stem to be the optimal solution for the surgeons who are interested in cemented prosthesis while looking at the same time for a tissue sparing product combined with the latest MIS surgical approaches. The stem has the added benefit of requiring less cement than conventional cemented prosthesis, this may help reduce the risk of the BCIS effect.
The stem is provided with a proximal and distal centralizing devices to help ensure the correct positioning of the stem and an even cement mantle. The asymmetric proximal centralizer ensures correct fit within the metaphysic and also help pressurize the cement upon stem insertion. The distal plug, combined with a centralizer on the stem, ensures the stem sits centrally in the diaphysis and the cement mantle is of uniform thickness.
