primary hip prosthesis / cementless
The PLS stem, launched on the market in 2003, is a cementless prosthesis for the partial or total replacement of the hip, indicated for a wide range of clinical cases.
The PLS is a straight cementless stem, based on the Spotorno philosophy, features a rectangular section with sloping profiles. In the proximal portion longitudinal fins are present, these fins ensure an optimal primary stability penetrating into the bony trabecular structure of the femur to reduce the risk of subsidence and provide axial stability. The distal tip is further tapered in order to help reduce the risk of impingement and thigh pain. The PLS stem has a macro-roughened surface to allow osteointegration of the stem in order to permit an optimal secondary stability.
The PLS stem is available in two different anatomical configurations: standard and lateralizing. These configurations allow the surgeon to reconstruct the different joint anatomies by transferring the rotation centre from a standard position (reference offset 39.5 to 55.3 mm) to a lateralised one (offset +5mm).
For each configuration (standard and lateralizing) 11 progressively increasing sizes are available. The stem is manufactured in Ti6Al4V titanium alloy.
