Description The Y maze is an enclosed apparatus in the form of a Y placed horizontally, similar to the T maze. Animals usually start from a stem of the Y Maze (arbitrarily chosen) and allowed to spotaneously alternate between the arms. The test relies on either spontaneous alternation or rewarded alternation(1). The Maze Engineers automated Y maze uses automated detection so that the mouse or rat can can be held in the center area with a freeze time, allowing for many trials without human intervention, maximizing ease of use and automated experiments.
