Description

Overview
Mepilex® Ag is an antimicrobial soft silicone foam dressing incorporating a Safetac® wound contact layer, a grey polyurethane foam pad containing silver sulphate and activated carbon colouring, and a breathable, waterproof backing film. It is intended to absorb exudate, maintain a moist wound environment and provide local antimicrobial action in wounds with low to moderate exudation.

Key features
  • Soft silicone wound contact layer (Safetac®) to minimise pain and skin trauma
  • Antimicrobial action: silver sulphate in foam
  • Grey polyurethane foam absorbent pad with activated carbon
  • Non‑border design (conformable)
  • Breathable, waterproof outer film; supplied sterile

How the product works
  • Safetac® adheres gently to dry skin while releasing from moist wound bed, reducing pain at dressing change.
  • Polyurethane foam absorbs and retains exudate to maintain a moist healing environment.
  • Silver sulphate provides local antimicrobial activity; in vitro data show reduction/inactivation of a range of wound pathogens up to 7 days.

Indications & intended use
  • Management of low to moderately exuding leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and partial‑thickness burns.
  • Can be used on infected wounds as part of a treatment regimen under supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Compatible with compression bandaging.

Instructions for use (summary)
  • Use by or under supervision of qualified healthcare professional; follow local hygiene procedures.
  • 1. Cleanse wound with saline or water according to clinical practice. 2. Dry surrounding skin.
  • 3. Select appropriate dressing size ensuring coverage of wound bed and overlap of wound edges; cut if required.
  • 4. Remove release films and apply adhesive side to wound without stretching; fixate if necessary.
  • 5. Dressings may remain in place up to 7 days depending on wound and skin condition; intended short‑term use up to 4 weeks unless clinically assessed.

Precautions
  • Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to product components (including silver).
  • Limited data on prolonged or repeated use of silver‑containing dressings, especially in children and neonates.
  • Frequent or prolonged use may cause transient or permanent skin discoloration.
  • Single use only. Do not use if sterile barrier is damaged; do not re‑sterilise.
  • In case of clinical infection, systemic or other appropriate treatments may be required; Mepilex® Ag does not replace systemic therapy when indicated.
