OverviewExufiber® is a sterile gelling fibre dressing made from highly absorbent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibres. On contact with wound exudate the dressing transforms into a soft, conformable gel to support moist wound healing and ease removal at dressing change. Available as pads and ribbon dressings in multiple sizes.
Fluid absorption and retentionHydrophilic PVA fibres attract and lock in high levels of exudate, forming a gel that helps to promote autolytic debridement and maintain a clean wound bed. The dense fibre structure minimises free fluid within the dressing, supporting retention even under compression and reducing risk of leakage and maceration.
How the product worksShallow wounds- Cleanse wound with saline or water according to clinical practice.
- Dry surrounding skin thoroughly.
- Select dressing size to cover the entire wound. For best result, Exufiber® should overlap dry surrounding skin by at least 1–2 cm for small sizes (up to 10 x 10 cm) and 5 cm for larger sizes. The dressing will swell and the edges will contract as it absorbs fluid and gels.
- Apply a dry Exufiber® pad to the wound and fixate with an appropriate secondary dressing chosen according to exudate level.
- Compression therapy may be used with Exufiber® where clinically indicated.
Deep wounds (cavities, tunnelling or undermining)- Cleanse and dry perilesional skin as above.
- Loosely pack ribbon or pad into the cavity allowing room for swelling. When using ribbon, cut to length leaving a 2–3 cm tail outside the wound for retrieval.
- Cover with a suitable secondary dressing and fixate or bandage as appropriate.
Donor sites- Ensure haemostasis after tissue harvest.
- Choose a dressing size to cover the donor site with at least 5 cm overlap onto dry surrounding skin.
- Apply dry Exufiber® and cover with an appropriate secondary dressing; fixate as required.
Precautions- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.
- If infection develops during use, initiate medical treatment per local clinical protocols; infection is not an absolute contraindication to use.
- Not intended for dry wounds or full-thickness burns.
- Single-use only. Do not re-use; reuse may cause deterioration or cross-contamination.
- Sterile. Do not use if inner package is damaged or opened prior to use. Do not re-sterilise.
WarningsAny serious incident related to the use of Exufiber® should be reported to the relevant competent authority according to local requirements.
