Description

Overview
The Avance Solo system is a portable negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) solution designed for single‑patient use to prevent surgical site complications and promote wound healing. The system comprises the Avance Solo pump, Avance Solo 50 ml canister, Avance Solo Border dressing and Avance Solo Foam. The battery‑powered pump is single‑button operated, body‑worn or handheld, provides visual and audible notifications/alarms and is intended for a single patient's use up to 14 days.

Key messages / benefits
  • Avance Solo Border dressing with Safetac adhesive reduces pain at dressing removal and minimises trauma to the wound bed and surrounding skin.
  • Controlled Fluid Management (CFM) combines controlled airflow, absorptive multilayer dressing and distal canister to deliver continuous regulated negative pressure.
  • Excess exudate is transferred to the 50 ml canister, reducing risk of dressing saturation.
  • Visual and audible pump alarms support prompt detection of therapy loss or system issues.

How the product works
The Avance Solo NPWT system nominally applies -125 mmHg to the wound. The Border dressing manages exudate by absorption and evaporation while excess fluid is transported to the Avance Solo 50 ml canister via the transfer port and tubing. Foam can be used for cavity wounds in combination with the Border dressing.

Precautions
  • Assess and address the patient’s nutritional status before initiating therapy.
  • Monitor for signs of infection or complications and check device, wound and periwound skin regularly.
  • Provide extra monitoring for patients with ischaemia or when applying circumferential dressings to avoid compromised circulation.
  • Ensure pump placement allows detection of visual and audible alarms; replace batteries when low using only manufacturer‑specified lithium cells.
  • Apply fixation strips only to dressing borders; do not place across the absorbent pad (risk of reduced breathability/maceration).
  • Certain skin protection or cleansing products can affect adhesion and sealing of dressing and fixation strips.
  • Do not use on patients with known hypersensitivity to product materials/components.
  • Do not immerse pump with canister; disconnect if water ingress occurs and avoid prolonged water exposure during hygiene routines.
  • Border Dressing must be applied and changed by a healthcare professional; do not cut the dressing or tubing, and do not modify or disassemble pump, canister or tubing.
  • Products of the Avance Solo system should not be used with components from other NPWT systems.

Warnings
  • NPWT may increase the risk of bleeding; sudden or increased bleeding requires immediate clinical action and emergency attention if necessary.
  • Monitor patients at high bleeding risk (anticoagulation or altered haemostasis) closely and ensure haemostasis before therapy.
  • Patients with vascular anastomoses, friable/irradiated/sutured or infected vessels need careful monitoring during therapy.
  • Ensure tubing and connectors are positioned to avoid kinking, blocking, imprinting, entrapment/strangulation or exposure to heat.
  • Cover or remove sharp edges and bone in the wound prior to dressing application to avoid puncture risk to organs or vessels.
  • Do not bring the pump into MRI environments (pump MR‑unsafe); Border dressings and foam are MR‑safe.
  • Do not use the pump in oxygen‑rich environments with a risk of explosion or where flammable anaesthetics are present; do not use oxidising agents before applying foam.
  • If canister or pump is damaged, pause pump, replace with new product and restart therapy.
  • Keep products out of reach of children and pets; small parts may present a choking hazard.
