Description

Overview
Mepilex® is a soft silicone foam dressing featuring a Safetac® wound contact layer. It absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and reduces the risk of maceration while minimising pain and trauma at dressing removal.

Indications / Intended use
  • For exuding wounds including leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, traumatic wounds (e.g. skin tears) and secondary healing wounds.
  • For protection of compromised or fragile skin and for prophylactic use to help prevent skin damage (e.g. pressure ulcers).
  • Can be used under compression bandaging and in combination with gels.

How the product works (application steps)
  • 1. Cleanse the wound according to clinical practice.
  • 2. Dry surrounding skin thoroughly.
  • 3. Select an appropriate dressing size. Cover dry surrounding skin by at least 1–2 cm for small sizes (up to 12.5 x 12.5 cm) and 3–5 cm for larger sizes; Mepilex® may be cut to fit wound shape.
  • 4. Remove the first release film and apply the adherent side to the wound.
  • 5. Remove remaining release film and smooth dressing onto the skin without stretching.
  • 6. If required, fixate with a bandage or other fixation. Dressing change interval may be several days; change before full saturation, at signs of leakage or as clinically indicated. Dispose according to local procedures.

Precautions
  • Do not use on patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.
  • Do not use together with oxidising agents (e.g. hypochlorite solutions, hydrogen peroxide).
  • If signs of clinical infection appear (fever, increased redness, warmth or swelling), consult a healthcare professional.
  • Do not reuse — reuse may deteriorate performance and cause cross contamination.
  • Sterile product: do not use if sterile barrier is damaged or opened prior to use; do not re-sterilise.

Warnings
The polyurethane foam may yellow with exposure to light, air and/or heat; colour change does not affect performance if used before expiry. Report any serious incidents to the manufacturer and local competent authorities as required.
