Cancer Embryonic Antigen (CEA) is a diagnostic marker mainly used for post-treatment monitoring of cancer patients. CEA is also found in embryonic tissue and is present in very low concentrations in normal adults. The increase in CEA may indicate the presence of cancer, but it is also increased in various types of tumors such as colon cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and stomach cancer. Therefore, it is more useful for determining the recurrence of cancer or for monitoring after treatment than for tumor screening tests.
