Patient-specific 3D anatomical models are created from patients’ radiological examination (computed tomography and magnetic resonance tomography) images using special certified software. Anatomical models can be used in two forms: virtual anatomical models (for example, virtual models used in in pre-surgical planning software), or actual anatomical models which are materialized using additive manufacturing technologies.
Patient-specific anatomical models are a mean for communication between surgeon and patient; surgeon presents the patient his/her pathology, explains the prepared treatment and obtains patient’s approval for it. Patients who have an opportunity to physically touch and see their own anatomical structure model from every angle possible, get better understanding of their pathology, the purpose of planned surgical procedures and chosen treatment plan.
Manufacturing and materials of Ortho Baltic patient-specific anatomical models
Ortho Baltic may present patient-specific anatomical models in three realizations:
In virtual form (in 3D pdf file format or as programme files: .STL, .PLY, .IGS, .OBJ, .CLY formats that can be uploaded to pre-surgical planning software). Virtual models are usually used for pre-surgical planning using specialized software;
Manufactured, using biocompatible material Nylon-12 (PA 2200) and additive manufacturing technology SLS. Such models may be used not only in pre-surgical planning, but also during surgery. In this case, they are delivered to the healthcare institution clean and packaged, prepared for sterilization in the autoclave.
