Overview
No grinder can beat the speed of a Vibratory Disc Mill when it comes to preparing samples for spectral analyses. The Vibratory Disc Mill RS 200 is designed for fast and reproducible pulverization of hard, brittle and fibrous sample materials to analytical fineness. The RS 200 runs steadily and smoothly, even with heavy grinding sets and at maximum speed thanks to its powerful Stabilized-Plane-Drive. It achieves grind sizes between 20 and 100 microns within seconds with excellent reproducibility.

Performance & Test Summary
The Stabilized-Plane-Drive allows extremely rapid formation of movement patterns of the free masses inside the grinding jar, resulting in higher fineness and significantly better reproducibility. In performance tests the RS 200 achieved a d90 value of 106 µm after only 15 seconds in a Quarter Minute Test and shows low standard deviation for d90 after short grinding times, which is critical for reproducible XRF measurements.

Operation and Handling
Operation is ergonomic and simple: grinding jars have carry handles to transport heavy jars to the mill and slide them on a rail into the grinding station. A clamping device safely fastens the jar with less force and a sensor checks correct jar position. Grinding parameters are entered with a single button, up to 10 parameter combinations can be stored, and the menu guidance is available in multiple languages. A colored graphics display shows service and operating information.

Grinding Sets
The grinding sets are developed for high throughput and high mechanical stress. Key features include:

Powerful Twin Pack for XRF Analysis
For accurate and reproducible XRF results, a uniform particle size distribution and dense pressed pellet are required. The RS 200 provides the rapid pulverization needed to achieve these sample preparation goals for XRF analysis.

Typical Sample Materials
RETSCH's Vibratory Disc Mills rapidly pulverize materials such as cement, cement clinker, ceramics, coal, coke, concrete, corundum, glass, metal oxides, minerals, ores, silicate, slag, soil and similar medium-hard to hard, brittle or fibrous materials.

Functional Principle
The RS 200 comminutes by pressure and friction. The grinding set is firmly attached to the vibration plate with a quick-action lever and subjected to circular horizontal vibrations. Centrifugal force acting on the grinding rings results in extreme pressure and frictional forces on the sample, producing analytical fineness in 1–3 minutes. Circular vibrations are produced by a frequency-controlled 1.5 kW 3-phase motor. A sensor recognizes agate grinding sets and limits speed to avoid damage. The noise-insulated grinding chamber cover has a safety interlock and can only be opened when the mill is at a standstill.
