Animal Implantable Heart Rate and Temperature Logger Leadless, minimally invasive and easy to implant. Long term heart rate and body temperature monitoring. Ideal for long- and short term studies in which baseline, stress and immunology responses are recorded in medium sized animals. Leadless, minimally invasive Small size – 11.8g Long battery life – typically over 8 months Automatic stress-free measurements ECG derived heart rate, including data verification Leadless, Minimally InvasiveThe DST milli-HRT monitor simultaneously measures long term heart rate and temperature in the study animal. The data logger has no external wires, which makes it especially simple to implant. It is made of unique ceramic housing and epoxy and is hermetically sealed, guaranteeing biocompatibility. ApplicationThe logger is ideal for a variety of studies including those monitoring behaviour and stress response, in the fields of laboratory animal research, wildlife research, animal welfare and fish physiology. Leadless ECG Derived Heart RateThe heart rate is derived from a leadless single channel ECG. As the electrodes are part of the housing the logger is especially easy to implant. The logger takes a burst measurement of ECG at the set time interval and calculates the mean heart rate for each recording. For validation purposes, individual ECG bursts can be saved. In addition each burst is graded with a QI (quality index). Stress-Free Long-Term StudiesThe logger is especially useful when a comprehensive data set throughout the research is needed with no disturbance to the animal. The heart rate logger has a battery life of 19 months, with sampling interval of 10 min at 600 Hz. Single or multiple intervalsThere are two modes for sampling, either at a single interval throughout the period or multiple intervals. Multiple intervals are especially useful when frequent measurements are needed at certain time periods. Simple in use, from setup to data retrievalThe logger and the accompanying items are designed for ease of use throughout the research process, from setting up the logger, implanting it, to retrieving and analysing the data. The logger is supported by the Mercury software and a Communication Box which have to be purchased with the first order. Programming the loggerTo start the logger for measurements it is placed into a Communication Box and connected to the software. The Communication Box serves as an interface between the logger and a PC computer. In the application software, the user sets the start time, start date and sampling interval before starting the recorder. Multiple measurement intervalsDifferent measurement intervals can be set for the same study. This is especially useful when more or less frequent measurements are needed at a certain time period, saving data space and battery. Memory and battery life calculationsThe software automatically calculates when memory fills based on certain interval settings, making it easier for the user to decide how to program the logger. Estimated battery consumption during that time period is also calculated. Uploading the DataAfter recovering the logger, the logger is inserted into the communication box and the recorded data is uploaded to the software. The results are displayed both in graphic and tabular form and the data can be exported to other programs. ReusableAfter retrieving the data the logger can easily be sterilized and reused as long as the battery lasts. Current battery life can be viewed in the software and the user can get an estimate of how long the logger memory and battery will last in a planned research. Hermetically sealedAll Star-Oddi loggers are hermetically sealed and leak proof. Therefore the battery is not replaceable. Minimally Invasive ImplantationDue to the leadless design and small size of the loggers, implantation is simple and minimally invasive. For the best ECG signal it is recommended to implant the heart-rate logger subcutaneously close to the heart. The DST milli-HRT is suitable for medium sized animals, such as canines, rabbits and more. SterilizationThe loggers can be sterilized and reused for as long as the battery lasts. As Star-Oddi’s loggers contain electronics not all sterilization methods are suitable; this includes methods where temperature exceeds 60°C.
