Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver tissue. If hepatitis resolves within six months, it is called acute, if it lasts longer than six months, it is chronic. Acute hepatitis may resolve on its own, progress to chronic hepatitis, or (rarely) result in acute liver failure. Chronic hepatitis may progress to liver scarring (cirrhosis), liver failure, and liver cancer.
Viral Hepatitis presents global health challenges, with death rates beginning to outnumber those from HIV/AIDS. There are 5 different and most common types of Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 2024 Global Hepatitis Report numbers, the number of lives lost due to viral hepatitis has increased to 1.3 million of these 83% were caused by Hepatitis B (caused by Hepatitis B virus (HBV)) and 17% by Hepatitis C (caused by Hepatitis C virus (HCV)).

Bosphore HBV Detection Kit v1 detects hepatitis B virus DNA in human serum or plasma, encompassing all the major HBV genotypes (A-H). A region within the S gene is amplified and fluorescence detection is accomplished using the FAM filter.
An internal control has been integrated into the kit in order to check PCR inhibition.
