Description

During cataract surgery, the clouded lens is replaced by a lens implant and thus, the visual acuity is restored. Nevertheless, a so-called secondary cataract (PCO) is formed in some patients after cataract surgery. In this case, the implanted lens does not become overcast but rather the rear lens capsule that remained in the eye does – the so-called secondary cataract forms. This causes the patient's vision to be clouded again, vision is impaired. Capsulotomy using the Nd:YAG Laser Q-Las allows precise opening of the clouded posterior lens capsule and restores an unimpaired vision. This treatment can be carried out directly with the slit lamp laser in the ophthalmologist’s practice. After successful capsulotomy, the clouded vision is gone. In addition to capsulotomy, the Q-Las also offers the possibility of iridotomy treatment in angle closure glaucoma.
