PresentationThe Randall & Selitto test determines the nociceptive threshold in rodents by applying a uniformly increasing pressure to the paw. The LE7306 Rat Paw-Pressure system (BIOSEB) is designed for controlled, repeatable stimulation in preclinical pain research.
Operating principleA step-motor drives a sliding support carrying a 1 mm conic tip mounted on an extensiometric load cell. The system provides a gradual, selectable pressure increase applied to the paw. Real-time force (grams) is displayed on the digital screen. The motor and tip are mounted on a pivoting stand to prevent excessive localized load. The Control Unit allows transducer adjustment, balance and reset, and selection of the step-motor speed. A remote foot-switch enables hands-free motor on/off control. At track end or upon pedal release the motor automatically reverses at higher speed to retract the tip.
Parameters Measured- Force applied to the paw until withdrawal or vocalization (rats)
- Force applied to the tail until withdrawal (mice)
- Force applied to the paw until flexor toe response (mice)
Key features- Digital display of current applied force (grams)
- Selectable pressure increase rate (adjustable motor speed)
- Pivoting support to avoid excess pressure on the paw
- Remote foot-switch for hands-free operation
- Optional data transfer software SEDACOM 2.0 for visualization and export
