PresentationThe Digital Water Plethysmometer is an instrument for precise measurement of small volume changes in rodent paws. It is commonly used in preclinical inflammation and oedema studies to quantify paw volume variations and to screen anti-inflammatory or anti-oedema compounds.
Operating principleThe measuring assembly consists of two interconnected clear methacrylate tubes filled with a conductive solution and two platinum electrodes (one per chamber). Immersion of the animal paw displaces water from the measurement tube into the reference tube, changing conductance between the electrodes. The Control Unit detects conductance changes and displays volume displacement with 0.01 ml resolution. The device auto-zeroes between readings. A foot-switch enables hands-free start/stop control.
