Description

Overview
The Nordlys® IPL and Laser Platform is a multi-application skin treatment system combining Selective Waveband Technology (SWT) IPL, two non-ablative fractional lasers (1550 nm and 1940 nm) and an Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser. It is designed to treat pigmentation, vascularity, skin resurfacing, textural irregularities and hair removal. The Nordlys Mini is a standalone non-ablative fractional laser device offering the same 1550 nm and 1940 nm lasers found on the Nordlys device.

Key benefits
  • Multi-application platform enabling a broad range of dermatologic and aesthetic treatments (pigment, vascular, resurfacing, hair removal).
  • Compatible across Fitzpatrick Skin Types I–VI depending on applicator selection and settings.
  • High ROI non-ablative fractional resurfacing capabilities with low downtime.
  • Extensible system: additional handpieces/applicators can be purchased to expand treatment options over time.
  • Guided and Expert user modes to support quick learning and customizable treatments.

Core technologies
  • SWT® (Selective Waveband Technology) IPL — narrowband IPL with dual light filters and sub-millisecond pulses for vascular treatments, photorejuvenation and hair removal.
  • 1550 nm non-ablative fractional laser — deep non-ablative fractional resurfacing for texture improvement (also available on Nordlys Mini) with SoftCool™ for patient comfort.
  • 1940 nm non-ablative fractional laser — epidermal/shallow resurfacing for benign pigmented lesions and superficial dermal treatment (available on Nordlys and Nordlys Mini).
  • Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser — vascular lesions (leg vessels, facial telangiectasias, venous lakes, port wine stains), onychomycosis (clear nail), warts and other benign cutaneous lesions.

Applications & FDA/CE/TGA indications (examples)
1550 (Nordlys & Nordlys Mini)
  • Non-ablative skin resurfacing (textural irregularities)
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Striae (stretch marks)
  • Coagulation of soft tissue

1940 (Nordlys & Nordlys Mini)
  • Skin resurfacing via coagulation of soft tissue
  • Epidermal non-ablative fractional resurfacing
  • Treatment of benign pigmented lesions (e.g., lentigines, solar lentigines, ephelides) for appropriate Fitzpatrick types
  • Actinic keratosis (where indicated)

Nd:YAG 1064 nm
  • Leg vessels (0.1–3 mm diameter)
  • Facial telangiectasias
  • Benign vascular lesions
  • Port wine stains
  • Venous lakes
  • Clear nail (onychomycosis)
  • Benign cutaneous warts

SWT IPL Handpieces and Filters
  • PL 400 — epidermal pigmented lesions
  • PR 530 / PRS 530 / VL 555 / VLS 555 — photorejuvenation, telangiectasias, rosacea, vascular lesions, poikiloderma of Civatte, inflammatory acne (PR 530)
  • HR 600 / HRL 600 / HRD 645 — permanent hair reduction

How it works
The system emits precise light pulses at selective wavelengths that are absorbed by target chromophores (melanin for hair removal; hemoglobin for vascular lesions). Absorbed light converts to heat to selectively destroy hair follicles or blood vessels or to create microscopic treatment zones for fractional resurfacing, promoting collagen remodeling and skin renewal.

Applicators & treatment flexibility
  • SWT IPL applicators use both light and water filtration to deliver narrowband IPL and to eliminate wavelengths above 950 nm.
  • 1550 nm and 1940 nm laser applicators for non-ablative fractional resurfacing (both available on Nordlys and Nordlys Mini).
  • Nd:YAG 1064 nm applicator available with three tip configurations: circular, semi-circular and circular sapphire for different vascular and anatomical needs. Spot sizes adjustable via software-controlled zoom from 1.5 to 5.0 mm.
  • Integrated SoftCool™ technology allows treatment without constricting underlying vessels and improves patient comfort.

Performance & features
  • Two user levels: Guided mode for easier adoption and Expert mode for advanced customization.
  • Adjustable articulated arm for screen/tray positioning and flexible applicator cables to reduce strain risk.
  • Whisper-quiet operation and design considerations for patient and practitioner comfort.
  • Secure Wi‑Fi–enabled remote assistance for diagnostics and software updates; patient database for treatment records.

Available product variations
  • Nordlys® — multi-application platform (SWT IPL, 1550 nm, 1940 nm, Nd:YAG 1064 nm).
  • Nordlys Mini™ — non-ablative fractional laser device with 1550 nm and 1940 nm applicators (minimal consumables, low downtime).

Regulatory clearances & evidence
  • FDA 510(k) clearance referenced for Nordlys (K212492, Dec 2021).
  • CE and Health Canada clearances referenced; TGA clearance referenced.
  • Backed by clinical studies, before-and-after imagery and user manuals (Nordlys User Manual 2024 and cited literature).

Clinical use cases & typical outcomes
Indicated for photorejuvenation, rosacea and diffuse redness reduction, benign pigmented lesions, leg and facial vascular treatment, acne (select PDT/PR settings), skin resurfacing and permanent hair reduction. Many patients see visible improvement after the first treatment with progressive results across a treatment course; optimal results and number of sessions depend on the indication.
