Description

JCAHO needs the x-ray exposure measurements which are determined by the most used projections in all the radiographic suites. For providing this information while using the Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) or the Automatic Brightness Control (ABC) systems, the especially designed phantoms should be used. Between the source and the AEC or ABC detectors, the attenuating material should be used. These detectors are energy dependent and hence the measurement of the skin entrance exposure needs to utilize the patient equivalent phantoms for getting the optimized outcome. The use of four special phantoms is recommended by the Report #31, for using in the diagnostic x-rays. The acrylic and aluminum phantoms are made to be traditional to the AAPM recommendations and are patient equivalent. The required attenuation is offered between the source and the AEC or ABC detectors by the patient equivalent acrylic and aluminum phantoms. It helps in complying with the JCAHO requirements for the measurements of the radiographic exposure. It is easy to use and complies with the AAPM recommendations which is contained in the Report no. 31.
