LUMED has invented, patented, and manufactures a device that eliminates the use of plastic in spirometry. The cardboard mouthpiece does not protect patients and operators from viral and bacterial contamination. Traditional bacterial and viral filters (BV filters) do offer this protection, but they are made from plastic. Our device, named BOFAP, is a bacterial and viral filter for spirometry that is both disposable and recyclable with paper, including its individual packaging. The main features are: No compromise on quality and results Maximum protection for patients and operators Elimination of plastic use Reduced transport and storage volume (1/5 of traditional solutions) Cost-effectiveness The carbon footprint accounts for about half of a product's or activity's overall ecological impact, representing its contribution to pollution. By using just five BOFAPs, I can reduce the equivalent of 1 kilogram of CO2 released into the atmosphere. This figure is significant, considering that tens of millions of spirometries are performed in Italy and around the world each year. Thus, it is possible to prevent the discharge of tens of thousands of tons of CO2 annually. With BOFAP, LUMED offers the world of pulmonology a practical, economical, and easy-to-use solution that contributes to a real and measurable improvement in environmental sustainability.
