Medifin sterile paraffin gauze dressing is a leno‑weave cotton gauze impregnated with soft white paraffin to provide a low‑adherent primary contact layer for wound management. It is gamma‑sterilised, single‑use and individually packed in a translucent paper pouch to minimise paraffin loss during removal. The dressing is non‑absorbent and intended to be used with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing for wounds with moderate to heavy exudate.

How it works
The paraffin coating forms a low‑adherent interface that reduces direct contact between the mesh and the wound bed while the open leno weave permits exudate passage to a secondary dressing. The low‑adherent nature is not fully non‑adherent; prolonged application may increase adherence and requires more frequent changes based on drainage.

Application / Indications

Instructions for Use (IFU)
Application

• Verify packaging integrity before use
• Clean the wound to remove debris or foreign bodies
• Wash hands and apply the dressing contact side to the wound
• Cover with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing or bandage
• Change dressing frequency according to wound drainage
• Choose gauze size according to clinician judgement

Removal

• Remove the paraffin gauze carefully to avoid trauma to new tissue
• Dispose of used materials following local medical waste regulations

Contraindications & Warnings

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to paraffin
• Not for use on cavity wounds
• Do not use on heavily exuding wounds without an adequate secondary absorbent dressing (risk of maceration)
• Single‑use only; do not reuse or re‑sterilise
• Do not use if packaging is damaged
• Seek medical advice if redness, increased pain or signs of infection appear

Limitations & Precautions

• Paraffin coating prevents absorption of blood and exudate; always pair with an absorbent secondary dressing when required
• Prolonged application may increase adherence and risk tissue damage on removal — change frequency should follow wound characteristics
• For leg ulcers, use only under medical supervision
