A Thulium fiber laser (TFL) emits photons with a wavelength of 1940 nm, which are strongly absorbed by water. Holmium (Ho:YAG) lasers, the current gold standard for stone lithotripsy, are being replaced with thulium fiber lasers (TFL). Using TFL technology reduces retropulsion while ablating the stone, making it an excellent dusting tool. Particularly for calculi of low and medium hardness.
