Description

Short description

Diff Stain Quick Veterinary is a veterinary Romanowsky-type rapid staining kit for in vitro diagnostic use (IVD). The kit contains three ready-to-use solutions (fixative, red, blue) enabling morphological differentiation of blood cell elements from companion, farm and exotic species. Typical staining time is 20–30 seconds per dipping step with chromatic results comparable to May-Grünwald–Giemsa.

Kit composition and characteristics

  • Components: Fixative solution, Red solution (eosinophilic), Blue solution (basophilic)
  • Formats: Standard kit 6×250 ml; Mini kit 2×100 ml fixative + 1×100 ml red + 1×100 ml blue; Single fixative 500 ml option
  • Staining time: 20–30 seconds per dip
  • Manufacturer: Pro-Eko Srl
  • Product type: Veterinary IVD medical device – Reg. (EU) 2017/746

What Diff Stain Quick Veterinary is used for

  • Rapid morphological assessment of blood smears for evaluation of anaemia, infection, inflammation, platelet disorders and haematological neoplasia in animals
  • Provides differentiation comparable to MGG: erythrocytes red-violet/grey; neutrophil nuclei blue-violet; eosinophil granules orange-red; basophil granules dark blue; lymphocyte nuclei intense blue; monocyte kidney-shaped nucleus; platelets purple
  • Compatible with nucleated erythrocyte species (reptiles, birds, fish): erythrocyte nuclei blue-violet and oval

Procedure

  • Prepare a blood smear from EDTA or fresh blood and air-dry for 5 minutes
  • Fixative: dip slide 5 times for 1–2 seconds, allow excess to drain between dips
  • Red solution: dip 5 times for 1–2 seconds, drain between dips
  • Blue solution: dip 5 times for 1–2 seconds, drain between dips
  • Rinse with distilled or buffered water pH 7.0–7.2
  • Air-dry and observe at 40× and 100× (immersion oil)

Optimisation for exotic species

  • For reptiles and birds with nucleated erythrocytes increase blue solution dips to 7–10 to enhance nuclear definition

Areas of application

  • Veterinary clinics: rapid leukocyte differential in dogs, cats, horses and other mammals
  • Exotic animal medicine: haematological morphology for reptiles, birds and small mammals
  • Veterinary laboratories: diagnostic cytology including FNAB and effusions
  • Veterinary emergency care: rapid haematological assessment in emergencies
  • Animal health institutes: screening for infectious blood diseases in wild and farm animals

CLP classification and safety

  • The fixative contains methanol (flammable and acutely toxic). Use away from open flames, in well ventilated areas and wear appropriate gloves and eye protection
  • Consult the current Safety Data Sheet for handling, storage and disposal instructions

Customisation and manufacturing

  • Available in standard and mini kits; dedicated batches and IVD documentation can be provided for laboratories and institutes
