This tiny logger weighs only 1.3 g and is 17mm long and 6mm wide. Each logger is calibrated to specifications using test equipment traceable to the International System of Units (SI), through a National Metrological Institute (Netherlands: RvA K013). The accuracy and performance of the logger are guaranteed for one year post delivery. Traceability in cold chain monitoring and storage Every measurement has a timestamp as the logger synchronizes its internal clock with the date and time on the computer being used. Each logger has an electronic serial number as well as an external serial number on the housing for identification and traceability. Leak-proof housing The logger is hermetically sealed in a leak-proof housing made of carefully chosen biocompatible ceramic material. Sensor holder for stable placement in vials and syringes available A sensor holder, made of stainless steel, keeps the logger in an optimal centered position inside vials and syringes throughout the production and shipping process. The sensor holder guarantees a stable placement for temperature measurements. This allows users to easily identify any unexpected temperature changes in the production process, storage, shipping, or breaks in the cold chain. Using the logger Simple in use, from setup to data retrieval: The logger and the accompanying items are designed for ease of use throughout the research process, from setting up the logger, inserting it in the container, to retrieving and analysing the data. The logger is supported by the Mercury software and a Communication Box which have to be purchased with the first order. Programming the logger: To start the logger for measurements it is placed into a Communication Box and connected to the software. The Communication Box serves as an interface between the logger and a PC computer. In the application software, the user sets the start time, start date and sampling interval before starting the recorder. Single or multiple intervals: There are two modes for sampling, either at a single interval throughout the period or multiple intervals. When choosing multiple intervals programming it is possible to define up to seven different intervals and number of measurements for each interval. Shifting between wide and narrow intervals can help in extending the measuring period due to memory limitation and have more frequent measurements during certain time periods. Memory and battery life calculations: The software automatically calculates when memory fills based on certain interval settings, making it easier for the user to decide how to program the logger. Estimated battery consumption during that time period is also calculated. Uploading the Data: After recovering the logger, the logger is inserted into the communication box and the recorded data is uploaded to the software. The results are displayed both in graphic and tabular form and the data can be exported to other programs. Low energy consumption: Due to the low energy consumption circuitry design the battery life is long, but actual lifetime depends on usage and sampling interval used. After data retrieval the logger can be sterilized and reused, as long as the batteries last. Battery life estimation is always reported upon connection with the logger and the user can get an estimate of how long the logger memory and battery will last in a planned research. Hermetically sealed: All Star-Oddi loggers are hermetically sealed and leak proof. Therefore the batteries are not replaceable. Sterilization: The loggers can be sterilized and reused for as long as the battery lasts. As Star-Oddi’s loggers contain electronics not all sterilization methods are suitable; this includes methods where temperature exceeds 60°C.
