Who we are
ITEL Telecomunicazioni is a leading manufacturer of products and services for Healthcare in Medical Imaging.
Born in 1982 in the Telecommunications sector, ITEL has provided radio links and electromagnetic shields for the Italian Defense, for ENEL (National Power Company), for banks and radio/TV networks.
Thanks to the experience and expertise acquired in electromagnetic waves, fields and radiations, ITEL has expanded its market to Medical Devices and EMC compliance.
In 1985, ITEL has been the first European company to develop and install an Electromagnetic Shielding for Diagnostic Imaging. The evolution of MRI systems and the occurrence of site-depending ghost images has led ITEL to introduce new concepts, such as active compensation systems (in 1997) and medical site auditing for EMC compliance. ITEL has a worldwide and longstanding leading expertise in the latter, being today the only company in the world able to face and solve completely all MRI on-site installation problems.
The trust in future and innovation has led ITEL to provide continuous product upgrades throughout the years, such as the Open Shielding Box® for smaller MRI (first in the world in 1997) and more recently the Visual and Music Therapy enabled Shields, which meet the latest requirements of patient experience and perfectly blend the best technical performances with the worldwide acknowledged Italian design and manufacture.
ITEL’s DNA is programmed to continuously face new challenges and to be open to innovation. Thus, ITEL has started in 2009 a new division, ITELPHARMA, for the production of radiopharmaceuticals and services for Nuclear Medicine, and is involved in an ongoing project to design a compact Proton Accelerator for Hadron Therapy.
The overall expertise gained in the above mentioned activities enables ITEL to be one of the few companies in the world able to offer high-tech products and solutions based on the interaction of mechatronics, electromagnetic compatibility and radiations as well as complete turn-key Healthcare facilities such as Radiopharmaceutical Labs or MRI plants.
Today ITEL operates in 40 countries with public and private healthcare facilities, manufacturers of medical equipment, technological, scientific and medical research institutions.
In consideration of the highly technical and scientific nature of its activities, ITEL has always paid great attention to the cooperation and synergies with public research institutions such as the CNR (National Research Council), the ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies and Sustainable Economic Development), the INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics), the ISS (Leading Technical and Scientific Body of the Italian National Health Service), the National Institute Regina Elena-IFO, and universities such as the University of Bari, the Polytechnic University of Bari, the University Federico II of Naples, the Polytechnic University of Marche, the University of Lecce, the University of L’Aquila.
ITEL is a member of several Industrial Districts such as the Apulia District of Mechatronic/MEDIS (the mechatronics district of Apulia Region) and of the ICT-SUD (a competence center on information and communication technologies).
Thanks to the continued efforts to develop and improve its processes, ITEL now holds many industry recognized quality certifications and technical accreditations.
