Description

Overview
The FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor delivers automatic glucose readings every minute and is designed as a discreet, easy-to-apply continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor with up to 15 days of wear. It is intended to support patients and healthcare professionals in routine glucose monitoring and management.

Key benefits
  • Discreet 15-day sensor — easy to apply and comfortable to wear for up to 15 days.
  • Real-time glucose readings — automatic readings available every minute.
  • No fingersticks required in normal use — fingerstick tests are required if alarms/readings do not match symptoms or when prompted during the first 12 hours after application.
  • Proven 15-day accuracy — validated in manufacturer-cited studies to support clinical glucose decisions.
  • Affordability considerations — positioned to reduce out-of-pocket cost for many patients depending on payer coverage.
  • Clinical outcomes — studies report meaningful A1C reductions and improved glycemic management in published trials.

Customizable glucose alarms
The system supports configurable real-time alarms to match clinical and patient needs:
  • Alarms trigger when readings cross user-defined high/low thresholds.
  • Alarms can be silenced for up to 6 hours (silent mode); visual and vibratory notifications may still appear depending on device/phone settings.
  • Alarm notifications are received when alarm settings are enabled and the sensor is within approximately 20 feet (unobstructed) of the reading device.

Integration and data management
  • Authorized integrations with certain Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) partners are available (for example, noted integration with Omnipod 5 AID system).
  • LibreView data management and reporting enable access to current and historical glucose data to support treatment decisions and clinical workflows (software is an aid and not a substitute for professional medical advice).

Use and safety notes
  • Warm-up period: sensor requires 1 hour after application before glucose readings are available.
  • Readings may be unavailable if the sensor is too hot or too cold, if an error or "LO"/"HI" message appears, or when no current reading is obtainable.
  • Fingerstick measurements are required if symptoms do not match sensor readings, during the first 12 hours when prompted, or as otherwise indicated for treatment decisions.
  • Water resistance: sensor is water-resistant to approximately 1 meter (3 feet) for up to 30 minutes; do not immerse longer than 30 minutes.
  • Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by insurance and patient; payer criteria may apply.

Regulatory / age information
Indications and age clearances may vary by sensor and system version. Refer to local regulatory status and device labeling for specific age indications (examples: Libre 2 and Libre 2 Plus clearances noted for different pediatric age groups in some jurisdictions).

Clinical and study references
Manufacturer-cited studies, randomized trials, pediatric studies and meta-analyses are referenced to support claims on accuracy and clinical outcomes; consult cited literature and vendor documentation for details.
