Description

Presentation
Magellano ECG Intracavitario is an intracavitary and surface ECG tracing detection system with Bluetooth transmission, designed to support navigation and correct positioning of central venous catheter (CVC) tips by displaying variations of the P wave and QRS complex.

Function and use
The ECG signal is detected in real time on an Android smartphone or tablet, ensuring high signal quality. The screen displays and records the electrocardiographic tracing as the catheter tip approaches the heart; when the tip reaches the right atrium the P wave changes morphology and amplitude, allowing optimal catheter placement to be identified.

System components
  • ECG signal capture and transmission device (wireless unit)
  • 4‑terminal patient cable for simultaneous intracavitary and surface tracing
  • Android smartphone/tablet app for viewing, recording, storing and managing patient data

App and system features
  • Real‑time display of intracavitary and surface ECG tracings
  • Adjustment of sweep speed, amplitude (gain) and contrast
  • Freeze function to document correct catheter positioning
  • Storage of ECG traces and patient data in a dedicated database per patient
  • Print recording or export to PDF for external servers (or sending via compatible channels from the app)

Installation and ease of use
Magellano can be placed in a sterile field and protected with a sterile bag. The 4‑terminal patient cable enables simultaneous intracavitary/surface recording with high quality. Transmission is wireless via Bluetooth to the Android device that manages and stores recordings.

Power supply
The device is powered by 2 AA batteries (disposable or rechargeable); batteries can be replaced at any time, even during recording.

Clinical benefits
Intracavitary ECG technique allows verification of CVC tip position during insertion, avoiding subsequent radiographic checks, and reducing costs and risks associated with repositioning.
