OverviewFasTip is the universal connection cable for verifying correct positioning of central venous catheters using the intracavitary ECG method. The cable transfers the biological signal to the electrocardiograph. Correct tip placement near the cavo-atrial junction reduces the risk of arrhythmias, catheter malfunction, pericatheter fibrous sheath formation and PICC-related central venous thrombosis.
OperationWhen connected to an ECG (e.g., Magellano or other compatible systems), FasTip detects morphological and amplitude changes of the P wave. The catheter filled with saline acts as the exploring electrode via its distal tip. The P wave, recorded dynamically, increases progressively when approaching the right atrium, becomes biphasic within the atrium and turns fully negative once the tip has passed beyond the atrium.
