EUGENOL is obtained from Clove Oil. It is a light yellow liquid. Darkens and thickens on exposure to air. It smells like cloves. Practically insoluble in water. Soluble in alcohol, chloroform, ether and in oils. It has an anodyne (soothing) action on the pulp, which is why it is often used as a standby dressing for restorations. It has analgesic, antiseptic and balsamic, anti-inflammatory and healing qualities.
