PresentationBIOSEB’s Postural Module for Dynamic Weight Bearing 2.0 (DWB2) is an optional software add-on that extends DWB2 weight-bearing analysis with quantitative postural metrics. Developed in collaboration with Dr. Tighilet’s laboratory (Aix Marseille Université-CNRS) for anti-vertigo and vestibular studies, the module computes posture support asymmetries, non-limb compensatory load, global activity metrics and rotational/circling behaviors. The module is software-only and compatible with existing DWB2 systems; it can be installed by download and used to re-analyze prior acquisitions with the new parameters.
Key features / Results- Posture support asymmetries: polygon area of four-limb support (cm²) / max area — calculated from lines joining paw centers; increases indicate imbalance.
- Base of support (forelimbs / hindlimbs, cm) — inter-paw distances; reflects stance changes with imbalance.
- Gravity center vs geometric center distance (cm) — mean offset between barycenter and quadrilateral center.
- Confidence ellipse surface, width and height (cm²) — area containing 90% of barycenter positions; sensitive to postural instability.
- Torsion (cm) — distance between front and rear paw on the same side; quantifies body torsion.
Non-Limb Compensatory Load- Rearing on tail: count and duration (s) — episodes where tail provides support.
- Wall-supported rearing: count — rearing using cage wall (with/without tail support).
- Abdominal support: weight (g) and duration (s) — weight borne on abdomen and time spent, increasing with imbalance.
Global Activity- Global distance (cm) — total distance traveled.
- Average speed (cm/s) — mean speed while moving.
Rotations / Circling- Number of right/left rotations (a.u.) — counts of rotations; direction may indicate lateralization.
- Number of right/left circling (a.u.) — rapid in-place rotations (<500 ms) often associated with unilateral lesions.
- Circling vs rotation — circling defined as fast rotation around center of gravity.
Domains of application- Vestibular disorders and inner ear dysfunction
- Stroke and unilateral lesion models
- Parkinson’s disease and dopaminergic models
- Neuropathic and chronic pain models
- Developmental gait and balance studies
- Psychiatric research (schizophrenia, Tourette syndrome, ADHD)
SoftwareThe Postural Module is distributed as an optional software upgrade for all DWB2 systems. Installation is performed via software download; no hardware changes are required. Existing datasets can be reprocessed to generate the new postural parameters.
ValidationValidation reported (PubMed ID: 32547480).
