Antibiotic-Antimycotic 100X is a sterile, frozen reagent formulated to prevent growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts and fungi in cell and tissue culture. The solution combines penicillin, streptomycin and amphotericin B to provide a broad antimicrobial spectrum.

Composition and mode of action

• Penicillin: inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
• Streptomycin: inhibits prokaryotic protein synthesis by preventing the transition from the initiation complex to the elongating ribosome and can cause miscoding.
• Amphotericin B: interacts with fungal membrane sterols to form channels, altering membrane permeability and causing leakage of small molecules.

Applications

• Prevention of bacterial and fungal contamination in cell and tissue culture.
