Description

Overview
FARAWAVE is an over-the-wire pulsed field ablation (PFA) catheter available in two distal form factors — basket and flower — engineered to treat a broad range of pulmonary vein and posterior wall anatomies. It supports pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and enables PVI plus posterior wall ablation for persistent AF.

How it works
FARAWAVE delivers a proprietary waveform that preferentially ablates cardiomyocytes, which are more susceptible to electric field effects than surrounding tissues. This non‑thermal mechanism targets atrial myocardium while reducing the risk of thermal collateral damage.

Optimized catheter design
The catheter is designed for reliable placement across variable pulmonary vein and posterior wall anatomies, allowing effective PFA energy delivery without manual electrode activation management.

Key design features
  • Maneuverability for placement in variable anatomies
  • Two distal shapes (basket and flower) to address different vein geometries
  • Application for pulmonary vein and posterior wall ablation
  • Standardized electrode activation (manual activation not required)

Non-thermal ablation
  • Uses a proprietary waveform to preferentially ablate cardiac cells and limit collateral structural injury
  • Clinical evidence: ADVENT trial met primary safety and efficacy endpoints; MANIFEST-17K registry (>17,000 patients) reported no esophageal fistula, no permanent phrenic nerve palsy, and no pulmonary vein stenosis

Optimized delivery
The FARAPULSE dosing protocol provides durable lesions via a streamlined workflow using multiple distal shapes in a prescribed sequence with a single catheter.
  • Propensity-matched data show significantly lower PV reconnection rates for FARAPULSE versus cryoballoon and radiofrequency ablation
  • Capable of creating a 40 x 31 mm posterior wall lesion with two applications using a single catheter

Predictable and reproducible workflow
The FARAPULSE workflow reduces procedural-duration variability; reported PFA ablation time is substantially lower than thermal ablation (average reduction ~42%).
