How it works
The detector locates amniotic fluid in the uterus by transmitting an ultrasound beam from the probe and analysing reflected waves. When the probe is applied to the animal's skin, reflection from a fluid-filled uterine horn changes the device signal from intermittent to continuous, indicating pregnancy. The optimal day for examination depends on species and is calculated from mating or insemination dates. A repeat test may be required for very early pregnancies.

Interferences and accuracy
In healthy animals the test is nearly 100% accurate. Inflammatory changes in the uterus (for example pyometra with pus) or contact with a full bladder can produce false readings. Consider clinical context when interpreting results.
