D-Dimer is a marker for diagnosing heart-related diseases. After a blood clot is formed by a specific cause in the body, when it is cut into small pieces by an enzyme called Plasmin, fibrinolysis products (FDP) are released. And one of the FDPs is the D-Dimer. D-Dimers are not normally present in the blood and are produced only when blood clots are formed and broken down. Through this, they are very useful in diagnosing heart diseases such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
