Description

Overview
Precision-engineered rod phantoms for quantitative bone mineral density (BMD) calibration in CT and micro-CT systems. Manufactured using calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) embedded in a stable matrix, supplied as paired rods at defined mineral concentrations to ensure reproducible reference points for BMD analysis.

General details
  • Each set includes paired rods at 0.3 g/cm³ and 1.25 g/cm³ CaHA for calibration across a clinically and preclinically relevant density range.
  • Multiple diameters available to accommodate specimen sizes from small-animal models to human-scale samples.
  • Compatible with clinical CT, micro-CT and other X-ray imaging systems for quantitative BMD calibration and validation.

Specification
Small Diameter Set (2 mm – 4 mm)
Designed for high-resolution imaging of small specimens:
  • 2 mm rods: for very small bones such as mouse models
  • 4 mm rods: for small-animal studies including rat bones
  • Enables precise calibration in micro-CT systems with fine voxel sizes

Medium Diameter Set (8 mm – 16 mm)
Versatile option for mid-sized specimens:
  • Suitable for rabbit, sheep and human tissue samples
  • Balances resolution and signal for standard CT and micro-CT applications
  • Ideal for translational research and preclinical studies

Large Diameter Set (32 mm)
Optimised for larger anatomical structures:
  • Designed for human and large-animal bones, including vertebrae
  • Provides robust signal and uniformity in clinical CT environments
  • Ensures accurate BMD calibration at larger field-of-view settings

Key Features
  • Dual-density rods: 0.3 and 1.25 g/cm³ CaHA
  • Multiple diameters for species- and specimen-specific applications
  • Designed for stability and reproducibility
  • Compatible with CT, micro-CT and other X-ray imaging systems
  • Provided as paired rods per set for direct comparative calibration

Applications
  • Bone mineral density calibration
  • Longitudinal preclinical bone studies
  • Clinical CT quality assurance (QA)
  • Cross-system and multi-site standardization

CT Images
Representative CT and micro-CT slices and renderings illustrating rod placement, contrast and imaging performance for the different diameters and densities are available to support protocol optimization.

Technical specifications
  • Material: Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) embedded in a stable matrix
