OverviewThe IC-8® Apthera™ IOL is a small-aperture, presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens that provides extended depth of focus via a wavefront-filtering aperture design. By selectively filtering defocused light rays, IC-8® Apthera™ IOL supports a continuous range of vision from near to far while maintaining image clarity.
Highlights- Broad visual range: continuous vision from near to distance without pronounced transitional "blurry zones".
- Extended depth of focus: small-aperture wavefront-filtering design achieves a seamless range of focus.
- Everyday vision performance: monofocal-like distance outcomes with improved intermediate and near vision.
Clinical and Performance Benefits- Enhanced surgical outcomes: engineered to provide functional vision at near, intermediate and far distances.
- High patient satisfaction potential: reduces transitional blur, facilitating routine activities with fewer visual distractions.
- Versatile refractive performance: effective in eyes with up to 1.5 D of corneal astigmatism.
- Optimized clarity: sharp imaging and binocular contrast sensitivity comparable to monofocal lenses in varying illumination.
Design and Technology- Central aperture concept: wavefront-filtering aperture focuses higher-quality light to the retina while attenuating unfocused rays.
- Small-aperture EDOF technology: provides continuously extended depth of focus for a smooth transition across distances.
- Carbon Black Filterring™: PVDF component with carbon black filter ring to reduce glare and incorporate UV-blocking function.
- Monofocal-derived platform: hydrophobic acrylic optic and haptic materials for familiar surgical handling and implantation.
Surgical StrategyThe IC-8® Apthera™ IOL is typically implanted monocularly with a monofocal or monofocal toric IOL in the fellow eye. A planned slight myopic target (approximately −0.75 D) in the IC-8® Apthera™ eye combined with emmetropia in the fellow eye can produce monofocal-like distance vision with enhanced intermediate and near vision and maintain binocular monofocal-like contrast sensitivity.
