Description

Overview
LabPro Connect enables multiple users to access ID/AST data from laboratory workstations or office computers, reducing the need to interact directly with MicroScan instruments and improving laboratory workflow.

Key capabilities
  • Manage identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing (ID/AST) data from workstation computers
  • Reduce trips to MicroScan instruments for result lookup and exception handling
  • Process LabPro data while instrument workstations perform panel loading/unloading or maintenance
  • Consolidate data from multiple testing systems for epidemiology and management reporting
  • Support a single LIS connection for multiple testing systems

Improve access to results
LabPro Connect provides intuitive access to ID/AST results without requiring extensive training or separate middleware. Two configurations are available to match laboratory IT policies: open and closed.

Open system configuration
The open configuration connects LabPro Information Manager to laboratory workstation computers via the hospital LAN. Workstations must be able to reach the LabPro Connect network over the LAN.

Open System - Diagram reference

Closed system configuration
The closed configuration is intended for labs that restrict hospital LAN access. In this setup, LabPro Connect workstations are hardwired to a centralized LabPro database computer to isolate the testing network.

Closed System - Diagram reference

Benefits for laboratory management and staff
  • Minimize visits to WalkAway instruments to resolve exceptions or retrieve results
  • View ID/AST results, review QC and generate reports from the laboratory office
  • Filter views to display only data assigned to a user

Simplify workflow for laboratories with three or more MicroScan instruments
  • Generate consolidated epidemiology reports without merging multiple databases
  • Access results and instruments from any workstation on the LabPro Connect network
  • Load panels into any WalkAway system without segregating
  • Connect to the LIS using a single port
