Description

Overview
For minimally invasive endovenous laser ablation (EVLT), GigaaMed offers diode lasers with selectable wavelengths including 980 nm, 1470 nm and 1940 nm. The VELAS series provides configurations optimized for endovenous applications with fiber delivery and clinical workflow features.

Key points
  • EVLT using a wavelength of 1940 nm is presented as a focused solution for endovenous laser coagulation.
  • A dedicated laser device with the specific 1940 nm wavelength is available in the VELAS range.
  • Designed for minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins using endovenous laser coagulation (EVLC/EVLT).

Advantages of using 1940nm radiation in EVLT
Compared to 980 nm and 1470 nm, 1940 nm radiation is absorbed by water substantially more than by hemoglobin. Because water is a principal chromophore in tissue and vessel walls, 1940 nm enables effective vein closure at lower output powers, which can improve procedural control and predictability while supporting faster and more comfortable patient recovery.

Practical power comparison
  • 980 nm: historically widely used; typical treatment power ≈ 10–12 W.
  • 1470 nm: higher water absorption than 980 nm; typical treatment power ≈ 6–8 W.
  • 1940 nm: much higher water absorption; typical treatment power ≈ 4–6 W.

Additional product notes
  • Diode laser technology configured for surgical EVLT applications, emphasizing controlled ablation and coagulation behavior.
  • Product documentation and materials include water absorption data and EVLT-specific diagrams for 1940 nm.
