Westergren tube

Description
Sodium citrate 3.8% anticoagulant for erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) testing. Blood:additive ratio 4:1. Intended for use with automated ESR analyzers. Not recommended as the first tube for blood collection. After collection invert 8–10 times; invert several times again before analysis.

Sizes and usage
Ø13×75mm: for blood collection and anticoagulation for automated ESR analyzers using the Westergren method with a mixing ratio of 1 part sodium citrate to 4 parts blood (blood:additive = 4:1).

Ø8×120mm: compatible with various automated ESR analyzers. Due to small volume and negative pressure, filling may be slower—wait until blood stops. Mix anticoagulant by inverting the tube 6–8 times after collection. Inadequate mixing can cause hemolysis, coagulation or air bubbles and affect results.
