Density determination (note)
With the optional auxiliary set (e.g. KERN YDB-04) density determination is possible and convenient for school and training use. For liquids, buoyancy is measured using a glass plummet of known volume immersed in the liquid. For solids, weigh the sample in air (A) and then in an auxiliary liquid of known density (B). The solid density (ρ) is calculated as: ρ = A / (A - B) × ρ0. Where ρ = density of sample; A = weight in air; B = weight in auxiliary liquid; ρ0 = density of the auxiliary liquid.
