Description

The Leica CM1950 is a clinical cryostat engineered for efficient frozen section workflows. It integrates the DualEcoTec cooling system to accelerate cool-down, stabilise chamber temperature and reduce energy consumption. The instrument includes a spacious cryocabinet and integrated quick-freeze stations to facilitate specimen handling, storage and mounting preparation.

Key features
  • DualEcoTec cooling: enhanced instrument cooling for faster cool down and improved temperature stability of the cryochamber and specimen.
  • Fast freezing: specimen discs with deep-groove design and two integrated Peltier quick-freeze stations to accelerate freeze-down and stabilise mounting.
  • Stable cool air circulation: DualEcoTec combined with CryoZone technology forms a stable cool air zone around specimen, blade and anti-roll guide to maintain temperature-critical components during extended sessions.
  • Reproducible section quality: CE blade holder accepts high- and low-profile disposable blades and allows lateral movement; optional CNZ knife holders support reusable knives for hard objects. Leica DB80 blades are validated for use.
  • Sustainability and energy efficiency: uses refrigerant R290 (IPCC6 GWP: 0.02) and is engineered to reduce energy usage (up to 50% reduction versus previous models).
  • Ergonomics: optimized working height, off-center microtome, armrest and knee-space design, adjustable footrest and compatibility with height-adjustable chairs to support long sectioning sessions.

Applications / Workflow advantages
  • Clinical frozen sectioning with improved throughput and reduced environmental footprint.
  • Spacious cryocabinet to store and organise tools, blades, freezing media and slides for an efficient workflow.
